Topping Myself

Happens so often.  Worldwide figures are staggering.  Suicide.  There seem to be so many ways people do themselves in, but one thought seems to be common to all. “The world will be better off without me.”  I reckon there is something else common to all and that is fuzzy thinking.
I am so against generalizations.  Each person is different, and all people matter.  I do question the validity of the thought “the world will be better off without me.”  It is an assumption.  It assumes those closest to us will get over it.  Yet to me that is a great unknown.
There are always questions.  Why did I not see it coming?  What could have I done differently?
I reckon Bunyan was right to call a place the “sloth of despond.”  It seems so often people see their situation as terminal, when not far away is dry ground.  It seems to be a case of not seeing the wood for the trees.
That is not to deny the reality of a situation for someone, or the direness of the position.  A reality check is needed but sometimes that is the last thing a person wants.
I look at the assumptions. “The world will be better off without me.”  Not true.  There is only one me.  What I bring to the table may be one thing or many things, but whatever it is, it benefits others.
“They will get over it.”  Often I hear of people that do not.  There are questions and there can be a sense of failure.  Often what is left behind is brokenness that is not an easy fix.
“No one understands.”  There are heaps of people that do.  Those that have been in the same situation.  Sometimes they are not near at hand, but they are there.  One phone call can change a destiny.
“They have got their own lives.”  Everyone does, but not everyone is too busy to care.  If they are too busy to care, then they are the wrong people.  Many people want only the best for another and will do all they can to help it to happen.  All they need to be is asked.
“I only make things worse.”  It is not falling down that matters most but getting back up again.  I may have failed often but that does not make me a failure.  Giving up does.
I may not have ever been in a trench as deep as what someone is experiencing, but I have been in trenches.  Times when I thought there was no way out.  Times when an answer was not obvious.
What I do know about is hope.  What I do know about is change for the better.  See it or not, it is every one’s birthright. As a card I read once said “sunset in one place is sunrise in another.”  My sunset can be my sunrise when I do not make my sunset the end of the story.
Help is available and there for the asking.
