Tooth Out 2

2/7/2020

Things look fancy at dentists, but I reckon plyers are plyers by any other name.  The dentist drilled to help the tooth come out easier.   Then he used the plyers.  I was numb so felt no pain, but I knew something was going on when the dentist used my head to brace himself.
The dentist had also warned me that he may need to force my head against the head rest using some contraption he had.  It happened as he predicted.  I did not rotate my head 360 degrees though.  I reckon he only assumed I couldn’t.
Never mind the bright light shining on me.   It was like I needed to confess all. Confessing to them I had lunch yesterday probably would not have been enough.  They did manage to extract something out of me eventually.
The tooth was solid.  More drilling.  That happened many times.  I was a bit like an open cut mine and the technician was the truck taking stuff away.  I could feel the tooth getting loose, but it just was not coming out.   That was when the dentist said he would need a DTM or whatever it was.  It was an instrument for cutting the gum to expose the bone to make extraction easier.  What’s a bit of blood?  When it is mine, a lot really.
There were several times this happened.  Eventually the tooth came out.  I thought it broke such was the snapping sound.  Fortunately, my vision of the tooth being even harder to remove now proved unfounded.  All that remained was to deal with the roots and do some cleaning up. All that remained for them that is.  For me it had only just begun.
I did not know it at the time, but there was a lot of blood.  I had told the dentist I had had an aspirin that morning.  Made the bleeding like Old Faithful.  A stich was inserted in my gum.  I was very still when I knew there were scissors in my mouth.  I so did not want him making a mistake as whatever happened I would only feel later.  I was given a gauze to chew down on to help arrest the bleeding.  I was given spare gauze for use at home with some instructions.
The technician was really good.  Very understanding.  In fact, if I was to work for a dentist, I would want to work with one like him.  He was very polite and seemed to know what he was doing.  Fortunately so did another specialist I went to and said “you must do this all the time” only to have him say “oh no, I just googled what to do.”
Today is the day after.  I am supposed to rinse with warm salty water a couple of times today.  I was advised to take pain killers.  The technician said there may be pain.  The dentist said there will be pain.  I am hoping it is short term pain for long term gain.
Now to deal with the tooth I originally went to the dentist about in the first place.  The one removed only became sore after he said it would become sore.  I wonder why the pain is not just in my mouth but in my hip as well.
But that will need to wait.  It takes about two weeks to get over this one.  I have been through this, and no matter what awaits, I am over it.
