Today promises to be a pretty interesting day.  Merril has been crook, but we are hoping last night she turned a corner.  We are definitely both over it – though I had the easy part.
What I do not want to see her do is something I have seen time and again.  People come back too early.  They feel better so they take that as a green light to do heaps.  Unfortunately, that is often counter-productive.  What was perceived as a “set free” thing becomes a “set back” thing.  As I am fond of saying “one swallow does not a summer make.”  Things need to be dealt with properly.  Even when I am chaffing at the bit.
So today I am going to try to insist Merril does not over do it.  I may have bitten off more than I can chew, but I can only try.
Today we do cleaning.  My mission, which I have chosen to accept, is to have Merril sitting and directing.  In this instance she is the boss, and I really am used to having her tell me what to do.  Nicely of course.  With love.  And I, sometimes like a lamb to the slaughter, often do it.
I am sure I have mentioned before but we laugh so much about it when we bring it up.  A limo in Melbourne had its mirror in.  Merril suggested I should tell the driver.  I did and he thanked me politely.  When he drove away the mirror can out, as it was electric.  It did it automatically.  Boy did I feel like a dill and a country bumpkin.
Before we clean, I have a zoom session out of Melbourne.  It is at 7.30am.  An early start.  Though I find it cold I could not relate to something said a few weeks ago.  The guy who runs it said there had been snow across Victoria that night.  For sure it is cold here but not snow cold.
We have put the cleaning back an hour so I can go in Merril’s car.  Normally I make my way down after my session, but this time I want to be with Merril and watch her like a hawk.
When we get back, I see myself playing the piano.  I have not done much of that in recent times but have been a bit lately.
I also see myself putting books into our lending library.  We have been given a heap lately and they are really good ones.  I must confess I have been making executive decisions about what goes into the library.  Books that do not make it are given away.  Chances are there are some great authors that I do not know are great authors and have rejected them for the library.  Oh well, I can only do my best.
I also see myself having a sleep this afternoon.  Retirement is definitely not a do nothing thing.  It is amazing.  People say “I can’t wait to retire.”  They may as well say “I can’t wait to be old.”  But one of the advantages is, apart from appointments, I am not bound to the clock.
