To Be Continued

You probably do not get frustrated like Merril and I.  Sometimes what we see on tv just promotes a groan.  We are watching a program.  We are all absorbed.  We wonder “what will happen?”  Then at the end it says, “to be continued.”
To be continued!! But we may not see it next week!  We could be ….ummm…climbing Mt Everest.  That’s right, it is closed.   We could be in the crowd watching the footy!  Err that is not happening right now.  Well we could be in a live studio audience.  Oh yes.  Well we could be somewhere standing alone.  Yeah that’s it.  That could happen.  Never mind it is night-time.  Never mind that why would I?  (Actually if I saw someone standing alone in the darkness, I would be inclined to watch that person pretty closely.)
Ok we would not do that, but the point for me is I may not see it.  I want it over with now.  I have invested a deal of time and some effort in finding a comfortable place to watch, and it finishes up in the air.  In some things I reckon “to be continued” is good.  This is not one of those times.
History though is full of people buttering up leaders by saying things like “may your kingdom continue forever.”  It is a good strategy mind.  Make the leader feel like the bees knees, and then ask what you really want.  But history seems to show that most dynasties do not continue forever.  Not for the want of trying mind.  But so often someone else wants to set up their own dynasty.
Apart from not liking shows that say, “to be continued.” I find it really hard to watch someone continue in a destructive habit - something that I know is not good for them, and everyone except them seems to know.  No wonder they say, “there are none so blind as those who will not see.”  Though it does seem I too can be good at that.  Continuing in something that will not end well for me.
When someone continues to do the wrong thing by me, I avoid them.  It may be seventh time bitten eight time shy rather than “once bitten, twice shy.”    I mostly don’t like being bitten.
I bought a new set of glasses.  Graduated.  By graduated, I don’t mean they have a degree and are a qualified scientist.  One part is for distances graduating to close up reading.  I bought a chain.  I told Merril today I need to get used to it.  The chain sometimes tickles and feels like something is on my neck and I need to slap it before it bites.  It continues and I remember.
Seeing the stock market continue an upward projection is good, but now is probably not a good time to mention that.  As a homeowner it is good to see land value continue to rise.  When I plant and water a seed it is good to see it continue to grow and become the right plant in the right place.
To be continued can be a good thing.  I may resent it and ignore it but a friend to me is someone who continues to tell me what is in my best interests.  Ok it needs to be said in the right way or else I may just say “rack off hairy legs.”
There is no doubt in my mind that sometimes a “to be continued” is good, but that does not extend to tv shows.  Enough for now.  To be continued.
