Time and Tide

This holiday is going by too quick.  It only seems we just arrived, and it will not be long before we pack to leave.  Arriving is actually the worst part.  The joint has no lifts, and we are on the top floor.  We never look forward to slogging up the stairs, but we keep coming back because it is worth it.
Weird.  Yet there are other times time seems to almost stand still.  It is like I need to check my watch is still working.
I guess I am measuring time subjectively.  I have an appointment this week on Thursday at 9.20am.  That is not subjective.  It is fixed.  But that does not help us.  We still gotta be out of here.  Our time to leave is objective while for us our time here is subjective.
I had a fella ask me the time.  I said something like a quarter to Eight.  He asked what that was in digital.  Another fella I know was as bright as anyone I know but in exams he needed to draw the way a clock would look when the exam was over as he did not recognise 12 noon on a clock.
But then I am a dinosaur.
Then if someone were to ask, I would say our time here was well spent.  For some it could have been a waste of time yet reading, bike riding, walking, and yes even fishing and catching nothing was not a waste of time.  It was all relaxing which is what we wanted.  Even visiting people and have them visit and going shopping or to the markets was relaxing.
But time is a strange thing.  There is no doubt it marches on.  Soon will be the next stage.  I am not one to wish for relaxing 24/7, 365.  I would go crazy.  We see people go by in boats and on kayaks but I honestly feel no wishing it were different.  That may be right for them, but it would not be right for me.
I am one of these people that feels the time I have is to be used for personal development.  For sure there is a time to get away a while which is this time, but there is also a time for putting my hand to the plough.
Even in retirement I feel that.  I have not studied it, but it seems to me retirement is a product of the age.  I do enjoy being able to do things at my own pace and there is no doubt I have slowed down, but I am still happiest doing things.  It does not matter if it is a niche I have carved out for myself or a planned holiday, I am doing something.
Well the planned holiday is almost over.  There is plenty to happen in the next few months and hopefully the next holiday will be the packaged tour to Longreach.  But plenty can happen between now and then and probably will.
