Tidy Mind

It is weird how little things can mean a lot.
As I put in a previous post this is a big week for us.  There is so much going on but I am really grateful things like this can be done.  I was talking with some friends of mine earlier and it was highlighted how good we have it.  There may be less complaining if we realized how bad some places have it.
I have an activity tonight I normally do lots of physical preparation for.  I have done some but something occurred to me just before.  Which is more important, a tidy house or a tidy mind?
I am talking about something that for us is the exception rather than the rule.  I am happy with what we do.  A tidy house in important to both of us and we keep it that way.  But what was emphasised was something I consider the most important of all.
I can have the outside looking all prim and proper and I will always endevour for it to be that way.  Yet I can look the goods and still miss it.
One girlfriend I had, who I realized was not the one for me, insisted my socks be folded down just so to look right.  I agree looking right matters, but acceptability should not be based on that.
I do not think it is an either/or scenario.  To me both matter, but a tidy mind matters more.  I do not want to make the mistake of getting everything external just right but miss what happens on the inside - which to me matters more.
It’s funny how it works.  Going through the home to get it ready for renting out we have gone from room to room.  It seems the more we do, the more we realize there is to do.  I reckon I am a bit like that.  The more that’s done, the more I realize that needs to be done.
It is not always the case, but sometimes the outside is a reflection of what is on the inside.  I say it is not always the case because out of habit some are really prim and proper and their home and yard are immaculate.  Yet on the inside they are people people do not want to know.
The key to me is habit.  It is easy to do what has habitually been done.  I have always found doing something new is harder.  It may be easy eventually but the first step to me is the hardest.  Yet I find it liberating.  The choice is mine.  I can stay with the familiar or I can break new ground, which can open up all sorts of other possibilities.
We have found that with the house.  The initial clean makes such a difference. (that was one of the things I reckon frustrated Stu.  I have never known someone who kept things clean so meticulously.  To not being physically capable of doing that anymore would have goaded him).  Problem areas are a problem though.  They often need several goes to get looking smick.  It is by dealing with such things potential becomes obvious.
Though I will be glad when it is over.  Something completed is always better than the beginning of it.
