Things Have changed

25/1/2018

I was given a stroke and my thinking has changed as a result.
My choice was, live with the brain tumour, or have it removed.  I had it removed and was given a stroke that was unforeseen (they had to cut an artery to get to the tumour – that is what gave me the stroke.)  Thankfully it was mild. I can still do many things.  Others lose their capacity to walk and their brain. Thankfully I can still walk and have my brain (others may dispute this).  I did hear of a boxer who was deemed to be much better once the small particle of brain had been removed (sorry boxers, not fair, but I’ll admit I did laugh when I heard it.)
Ok I cannot do all I did in the past but that comes with getting old anyway.  My balance is shot, my speech bad and I can’t sing anymore. (Merril does not believe me and she has never heard me sing in recent times – that is the reason.)   I don’t know if I can still write songs.  I used to.  I play the piano and guitar – not simultaneously.  In fact, I am so musical I even have a set of drums in my ears!
Someone said a stroke “is like being drunk without the fun.”  That was backed up when I heard of a video given to students to identify who had had the stroke, and they could not.  In the video there was a drunk person and a person who had had a stroke.
I am disinclined to run and jump anymore, but for back yard cricket, I can wicket keep or (as I saw someone do) sit in a chair and field at cover or anywhere.  If I am close to others I can be a part of the conversation and the cricket – that is like doing two things at once!
I am determined to take the positives from my current situation.  If I am wrong it was the stroke, and when I’m right it was me!
My thinking has changed in that I used to plan for years ahead.  The trouble is, there is no guarantee on the future in this life.  I can’t undo the past.  I had no choice as to when and where I was born.  All I’ve got is now.  So my current thinking is if it is right for me and I can, then I go for it now.  Tomorrow may never come.
People ask if I’m ok.  I always tell them I think so but a second opinion is advisable.
