Things

I have seen those with everything unhappy, and those with seemingly nothing happy, and vice versa. 
There was a guy that did not have a lot, but his friend had everything including a beautiful home and an indoor pool.  Unfortunately for him, it was not something that really brought him joy.  His friend though, loved the pool and would spend ages in it, enjoying it.  Sometimes it seems that if we don’t have the stuff, it helps to know someone who does.
Still it highlighted for me that my happiness does not depend on stuff.  Sometimes I can enjoy the best of stuff, but in a different way. I also heard of a guy that got a Mercedes Bends for $50.  It was not that the car was on its last legs or anything.  It was a real messy divorce, and the guy got the car at that price, as a spite thing.
While I won’t take stuff that are the proceeds of crime, I will take bargains if they are offered.  It is not my fault if people want to offer me the best of stuff for nothing, or close to it.  Who am I to refuse?  Sometimes for me, not knowing is best.  If I know, I can’t.  If I don’t know, I can.
There is no doubt I like things, but as someone who gave me something said to me “hold them loosely.”  I reckon that is really good advice.  If I live for things, I will always be worried.  If “things” are just a part of my existence, I can hold them loosely, and get on with stuff I think is important.
Enough for me is well, enough.  I do not pine for what I do not have, as long as what I do have, is enough for me to live in the way to which I have become accustomed.  I was in charge of a working bee at one point.  Someone said to me “it is a pity so and so was not here.”  Yeah it was a pity, but it did not matter to me, as long as there was enough.  I enjoy the company of people, but as long as the event does not stand or fall on them being there, then if they are not there it does not matter, as long as there is enough.
All of this is easy for me to say at this point.  Everything I have been through causes me to adhere to these things.  Of course I do not know what the future holds.  It may be a real test of such things.  One thing I do know though, truth will stand, even if I fall.
