There is a Season

There is a Season
Every day they do it.  Without fail.  Birds.  They fly out from where they nest.  Not just one or two but hundreds.  Not just one type but a couple.
The Cormorants’ have got my attention.  They fly out low.  It reminds me of the song “you take the high road and I’ll take the low road” or whatever it is and however it goes.  When they return in the late afternoon though, they come in high to land in their spot on the tree.  What I find particularly fascinating about them is they seem to like the approach.  Often after they have arrived at their place, they will fly out a couple of hundred meters, and do a u turn and do the approach again.  Gliding and flapping when they need to.  I have no idea why they do that.  I like to think it is for the sheer joy of it.  I know it brings me joy watching it.
The Lorikeets fly high.  Both types of birds nest in trees near-by.  Every day they do it.  Fly out in the morning, and fly back in the afternoon.  It is like that song, “Turn, turn, turn. “To everything there is a season.”  For the birds it is like “a time for nesting and a time to refrain from nesting.”
Both types of birds do the same.  They fly off to their feeding grounds and return at nightfall.  I have no idea where they go.  That is a bit different to the Corellas at home.  They fly out and come back, but we have seen where they often go.  There is a park a few kilometres from our place and we have seen big mobs of them feeding there.
I don’t know how, but they seem to pace themselves when eating, and are able to fly home.  I am yet to see a bird walking home like “I have eaten too much and can’t fly.”  It is never a case of overload.  I though maybe something was going to be overload for me last night.  Merril has been reading and it is great stuff.  I had been reading too and my mind was full of what it was about.  What Merril shared was really good.  She said something like “you are not the way you are to be made something different.”
As an aside, what I really like about that, is everything I go though in life is not a waste of time.  I am the way I am and can relate to those that are similar.  Fortunately for me I did not dwell on it.  I felt I had enough on my plate, and that could have been the straw that broke the camels back.  I reckon I will go back to it though at some stage.
Every evening the birds come home to nest.  I like that.  There is a time for work and there is a time to refrain from working. I have designated one day a week where I make no appointments.  It is not that I do nothing.  It is just that I am obliged to do nothing.  It’s sorta me time.  Time to recharge my batteries.
It has got to be a safe place.  Birds nest.  I go home.
