The Trip

Some days driving is a breeze.  At other times I feel I should have stayed in bed.  The other day I should have stayed in bed.  Merril’s car was being serviced.  We needed to go and get it.  I was available.  Maybe I should have been doing something like…like watching to see if the grass was growing.
Though it was the car I drive, Merril drove it.  On the way, we went through an intersection I dread.  Apparently Merril does too.  I found out because she told me the way she was thinking of returning.  It would have been kilometres longer.  Why?  To avoid that intersection.
We made it thorough ok and arrived at a set of lights where we needed to turn right.  We waited.  And waited.  And waited.  There was a truck in front of us, so we knew we would be waiting.  But not that long.  Merril took a quick look over her shoulder and determined there was no traffic coming.  We decided we would turn left and do a u turn to come through the other way.
The u turn saw us visit a car park we would never need.  No sooner had we determined on that course of action then the lights we were waiting at turned green and all the traffic in front of us went on their merry way never to be seen again.
We went through the lights and turned right at the next lot and arrived at our destination.  We had a good chat to one of the workers there.  His son is a good table tennis player and will probably be an Olympian one day.  He has already represented Australia at the youth Olympics.
Time for me to drive home.  Because of on-coming traffic I could not safely cross the road, so I did three sides of a square and arrived at a set of red lights.  I was behind a ute I could not see in front of.  The lights turned green.  I thought the ute would take off, but he didn’t.  They were green for ages.  Did he know he could go?  I gave him a polite beep just in case he needed to know.  Eventually he did take off.  There was too much traffic in front of him to move before.  He would have been stuck in the middle of the intersection if he had gone any earlier.  He moved just in time for me to get the red light.  So I waited again.
I did move, and the trip was without incident (any trip without incident is a good trip to me), but I knew the round-about I did not like was coming up.  I have never seen it with so much traffic.  Cars  scurried across when they saw a chance.  No pressure.  Just all these cars behind.  One person was not going to let the pressure get to them.  I though “you could have gone,” and again “you could have gone.”  After the third time I did not think that anymore.  Eventually my turn arrived.  I violently looked in a multitude of directions and then scurried across when I saw my chance.
The only other thing that happened was near my place.  A truck was on the footpath with lights flashing.  I did not know if it was going to back back or not.  I cautiously passed the truck and then had to wait because another car was coming the other way.  There was a parked car in my way.
Soon I was home, and glad to be there.
