The Same Way

I guess what I have been doing has gotten me considering doing stuff the same way.  They say that a definition of insanity, is to do something the same way and expect different results.
To me, doing something the same way, and doing something different ways, are appropriate at different times.
We used to work with money.  It was important that we did not have a predictable routine. We did not want someone being able to determine their course of action, based on our predictability.  So we mixed it up.  Apparently crocodiles in North Queensland are notorious for secretly watching.  If they know someone has a predictable course of action, they will act on it.  People have just disappeared without a trace.  Our way of operating was not to collect at the same time every time, or to bank at the same time every time.
We were robbed three times, but never as a result of one of our people being confronted.  Two times, someone waited until we were closed.  One looked professional, and the other looked like a daggy crime of opportunity.  The one that looked professional, involved someone using a chair after dislodging our small safe.  The safe was found by the police in a field having been jimmied open.  The police did the whole forensic thing.  They cordoned off the area, got statements and finger printed the joint.  On the third occasion it was one of our own people.  They were caught.
There are times that, no matter how careful a person is, they are in the wrong place at the wrong time.  I don’t know that anything can be done about that (without a major overhaul of human nature).
A lot of things though, should be done the same way.  I guess it is why I practiced putting text onto pictures.  My thinking was, if I did something and learned how it was done, then next time, it should be able to be done the same way.  If I had stuff work once, and then re-did it, I could make sure the way was repeatable.
So much of what we do is repeatable.  I find that with computer programs.  There is a way that if followed, that should work every time.  I say should as I get really frustrated with computers.  So often it seems, something that has worked many times before, does not work.  I can waste hours trying to figure out why.  There can be many reasons.  Perhaps the modem is not right, or the way of doing things has changed.  Whatever the reason, my ignorance causes me major delays.
It seems ways of doing things evolve.  Sometimes for me it is a light bulb moment.  I may have been doing something that worked one way, and discover there is better way to achieve the same end.  Generally if it is easier, I am in.
My bother in law said something in general conversation that no doubt is known to most, but was not to me. When unscrewing something, all the screws should be loosened, before something is removed.  The reason is, that often all the weight is on the remaining screw, and that explains why it is so difficult to remove.  Often I need to get out screws.  So often all were easy except the last.
It seems some things should not be done in a predictable manner, and some things should.  Knowing the difference, is a challenge in itself.
