The queen is dead.  Long live the king.

I just watched the funeral of the former queen and a a few things really impressed me.

The building was beautiful. I really had no idea it was as good as it is. Being an older building with the supports not what they are now it had many corridors. Each was magnificent.

I thought the dress of the different roles being played was superb.
There is no doubt in my mind the British do these things so well. I thought of some of the parades I see in other countries. The precision is amazing, but to me honestly they lack something compared to what was seen in Britain. We were mourning a death, but we were also celebrating a life. A life well lived.

Merril said “I want something like that.” I assured her it would be something like that. Maybe the only similarity will be that people are there, but hey that is something like that. I do not think I will be done up as well as maybe the royal guards or the Mounties, but I do think I will have a good shirt on.

I was so pleased what I saw all went well. I suppose it was all well-coordinated and no doubt years in the planning. I have heard of a few that went awry. Including my dad’s which was almost a disaster. The preacher thought the funeral was the next day. All the people had gathered but there was no preacher. We rang him to no avail and found out later he was down the Gold Coast. We were frantically working on a plan which involved the funeral parlor people taking the service.

Fortunately, those who had gathered were very understanding and spent the time catching up with those they did not see that often. Finally, we got the preacher on the phone who had just got back. He came straight away. All went ahead as it should. I reckon dad would have had a chuckle at the proceedings had he still been around.

I did hear of another burial at sea. The people at the front were all serious but they did not know the casket was not sinking and people down the other end of the boat were frantically trying to do something about it.

Thankfully at this one all appears to have gone well. I must admit the beat of the drum at the procession reminded me of the people underground in Lord of the Ring hearing a drum of the approaching enemy. But this beat just provided the musicians with somewhere to start. They played very well.

I have a book about her my brother got. He was really pleased how it was written and how easily it read. The book emphasized her faith. It did not surprise me to hear the preacher mention her servant leadership. From the moment she ascended to the throne, she promised to serve and before she saw anyone, she met with someone who she had allegiance to. Good priorities I reckon.
