The Most Interested Person in the Room

Most would know I enjoy getting an email from someone called James Clear who wrote Atomic Habits.  I have a birthday coming up, and I think I will be getting the book.  It was the best-selling book on Amazon in 2023.
I like what he says as far as it goes.  For example I got this “New goals don't deliver new results. New lifestyles do. And a lifestyle is a process, not an outcome. For this reason, all of your energy should go into building better habits, not chasing better results.”
Personally I reckon that is great advise but I cannot help but think he is preaching to the converted.  Anyone who is strong in particular areas that relate to what he is saying, will respond positively.
I really cannot help but think of the person who has tried and tried to build better habits but knows every time the battle is fought it is lost.  To me there are areas we all need help with.  Some difficulties can not be over come by will power and positive thinking alone.  Intervention is needed.
If I were to come up with something like a wise old Indian saying it would be something like “blessed is the man who knows his shortcomings, and is not afraid to ask for help.”
Having said that though I really do like what he says.  In the email received this week was this.  "Don't worry about being the most interesting person in the room, just try to be the most interested person in the room.  The interested person asks about others and leaves a good impression because people like talking about themselves.  The interested person is genuinely curious about someone's craft and learns a lot about how things work.  The interested person engages with more people and—because opportunities come through people—is more likely to catch a lucky break.  In general, the interested person learns more and tends to be well-liked. And in the long run, it's hard to keep down someone who is well-learned and well-liked."
I have honestly found that big time.  People generally like a listener.  Someone interested in them.  So often they know very little about the listener except they were willing to listen.
To me that is a heart cry of humanity.  Knowing that my voice somehow matters.  That I am heard and understood.  It often matters not that my idea or thought is not embraced but it does matter that it was heard.
It is a good goal to not necessarily be the most interesting person in the room, but the most interested.
