The Island

29/5/2019

We did the amble thing.  From where we are staying we can see an island.  There is a bridge across to it.  It did not look far away so with cameras in hand we wandered down taking photo’s as we went.
It proved not to be very far from here.  There were workers working on the bridge structure.  They would travel to their pontoon by boat and work on the bridge supports.  They must have come to shore in their boat for smoko because that is what they were doing when we walked by.
We had decided we would walk around the island and take some shots.  The island proved to be really small.  Walking around it seemed to take no time at all.  I can only say seemed to as time just happens.  It seems saying “time stood still” is a fallacy.  It never stands still thugh it can seem to.  The saying “time and tide wait for no man seems appropriate here.  Time has gone by and we are on our last day.  The tide goes in and out whether I am ready or not.  Not once has it waiting for me while I get my fishing line and bait together.  I need always to do things according it its timing.
The island is a nice place.  We see many fisher people over there.  There are some gutters near the island ideal for fish.  But we do wonder how any would be left.  As if the number of fisher people was not enough, boats have fish finders.  Still, in talking with the manger here he said one of the people here has been going over there and getting a feed.  There is a children’s playground on the island and a yacht club.
Once we had seen enough it was time to wander back to our unit.  On the way Merril found a mobile phone.  It looked a really nice one.  It was protected by a code so we could not identify the owner.  We thought it must belong to a worker on a building being constructed near-by.  What we think happened was a worker on smoker sat next to the river and made a call and left his phone behind.  Phones can cost heaps.  We had seen a pair of thongs on the island that had obviously been left behind but they are cheap as chips.  Phones are not.
Merril crossed the road and talked to what appeared to be a foreman on the construction site.  He wanted nothing to do with it and suggested Merril give it to someone directing traffic.  She did that.  He took it and we have no idea of its fate.  One thing we did know though was it was not ours and we could really do no more than we had done.
I was watching her the whole time from my side of the road.  She then walked on her side and I on mine.  Eventually we joined up.  I was sort of glad about that.  It is not a good look to have two go out and only one return.
We wandered back to the unit and did nothing for the rest of the day.  It was sort of an “activity” and “do nothing” day in one.
