The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

I read something Hellen Keller said.  She was blind and deaf.  "Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it. My optimism, then, does not rest on the absence of evil, but on a glad belief in the preponderance of good and a willing effort always to cooperate with the good, that it may prevail."
I imagine it is way easier for me, but I do like it.  It ties in big time with my thinking that the bigger something is in my mind the bigger it grows.
I would be burying my head in the sand to think that the world is not full of suffering.  Seemingly needless suffering.  I have trouble with a Greek saying I also read. “If your doorstep is clean.  Your city is clean.”
I feel I know where they are coming from in that it is important my mind dwells on the good.  But the way I see the world does not mean everyone else sees it the same way.  If I overly dwelt on the bad, the good could be overcome very quickly.  To my mind there is a lot of bad in the world.  But I reckon there is a lot of good also.  Maybe it is harder to find.  Maybe it is not emphasised like it could or should be.  But it is there.  Big time.
It is weird how things stick in the mind.  I remember being in a bus in the US.  We discovered after we were in the wrong lane that we needed to go left.  We got the attention of the driver next to us and he let us go in front of him when it came time to turn.
That to me is the good in the world.  Someone doing a random act of kindness.  I have no doubt my faith plays a big part in the way I view the world, and it is undeniable I see less good than I did, but it still happens - a lot.
My optimism is not built on a Pollyanna outlook, but what I have seen, what I do and what I hope to see.  Maybe I need to look harder for the good, but it is there.
