The Conclusion of a Matter

That does not happen every day.  Well I guess there are a few things that don’t happen every day at the moment.  Like I am not normally home when this happened.
I was thinking, “how is a person to know if what they are being told is true?”  The reason I was asking myself that is there is a lot of stuff reported that seems creditable but only investigation reveals if it is true or not.
What happened that so surprised me is I went to bed and a show was just starting that investigated the question of how can a person tell if what they are hearing is true or not.
The doctor presenting the program cited an example from their life where they had forwarded a picture that made a claim that it was recent.  They were later told that someone had that exact picture from 6 years ago saying the same thing but in a different setting.
I guess it is why “fact checker” sites have arisen in the last little while.  In one sense the need for such sites does not surprise me as I see a change that has occurred in reporting in recent times.  It used to be stories were presented for viewers to make up their own mind.  Now it seems there is a proliferation of “opinions” where viewers are presented stories in a way that promotes a particular conclusion.
What the presenter was saying was that the most sinister form is untruth is well mixed with truth.  To me, I am much more likely to accept something presented like that.  I see it all the time.  Something presented that the vast majority of people would define as an injustice with a conclusion that a particular course of action is needed to correct it.  That to me is where I am not necessarily on board.
I was watching a former high profile Australian Politian being interviewed and he said something I found very interesting and to be the case.  He said civility has gone out of much discussion these days.  There was a time people could disagree and still be friends.  These days it is more of disagreement leading to hate. “Opinions” are often cited as the only course of action.
There are many it seems willing to “go with the flow.” But for a long time the words in a song have been like a mantra to me. “Some of them we must defend with everything we’ve got. Some of them don’t matter much at all.”  For me some things matter, and it matters to me if the evidence presented is true, and a conclusion presented will genuinely lead to a happy ending for victims.
