The Best is Left Till Last

Sometimes I write about things because that is just what I am considering at the time.  It may not be a subject I get a kick out of looking at, but something I reckon I need to look at.
Sometimes though it is something I am passionate about.  I heard someone say something I really like.  He is close to 70 and talked of how he was diagnosed with a normally terminal condition at 54.  He has become world renowned since then.  What he said was in effect sometimes the best is left till last.
Why I am passionate about such things is so often it seems older people at like they have reached a use by date. To me nothing could be further from the truth.  I really like that the person also said in effect “I cannot do all I used to do, but there is still lots I can do.”
He also made a point of saying that older people often have good advice for younger people. (Bitter and twisted older people are a lesson in what not to do).  The point for me is often people do not need to make the mistakes others may have made.  It is wise to follow good advice.
I have sort of grappled with that one.  I have asked myself, “do I need to suffer to learn?”  My conclusion more and more is there is much suffering I can avoid if I listen to those that have been through it already.  Not all - but a lot.
I do not necessarily like it, but suffering seems to be mankind’s lot.  Even growing older I find that some parts of me can hurt for no obvious reason.  Then there is the suffering of losing aa loved one.  Been there.  My dad lived to 97.  He gave up looking at the obituaries.  There was no one of his contemporaries left.
But I do not know when my time is up.  Until then there is stuff to do.  Always has been and always will be.  Whether it is one day or 20 years I just want to be ready to go and live a balanced worthwhile life.
