The Arrival

Well, here we are on the other side of the event we were holding at our church.  I admit it all exceeded expectations.  As outlined yesterday I put out 150 chairs which was about half again as many as usual.  It was not enough.
I was amazed at the number of people who turned up.  Our car park attendants were very quickly overwhelmed with the numbers that kept coming.  We quickly filled the car park we had available, and had to forward many to other places to park.
I was patrolling where we had displays from various ones including free books, a car display, RI, a coffee van, crocheting, kids area and games and a sausage sizzle.
Speaking of cars a Lamborghini turned up.  Man was it fancy.  I overheard one parent tell their child that car is probably worth more than their house.  Some young fella’s pulled up next to it and wanted a picture of themselves near it.  They said they had seen the car four times that day and wanted to know what was happening.
When it was time to start proceedings, everyone went inside and that was when it soon became obvious that there were not going to be enough chairs.  Close - and we ended up providing for all, but we had to get every chair we could find.
It was great.  One lot were at such an event for the first time and there were a number of them.  That was what really made the difference. Good problem to have really.  One guy came who cared for someone they brought along.  We got them parking as close as we could and did all we could to make the time comfortable for them and it seemed to be that way.
Someone got my wife and I a sausage and I caught up with someone I knew from table tennis days.  They had so many free books.  I admit I had said we would examine what did not go to see what was good for the library.  There is a huge number.  We will cross that bridge in time.
It was a great evening.  The sort a person could only be involved in once a year but totally worth it judging by the time people had and the positive comments to come out of the event.
