That's Good

The past is past.  The end.  No getting it back.  What’s done is done.  To my mind it needs dealing with and moving on.
I ask myself why would I want a future spoiled by the past?  I totally think that it should be learned from, and it contains lessons.  Important lessons.  Though the experience may have been a downer does not mean it need be a wasted experience.  Although it may have been painful (and I have had my share of those) I can grow from it.
I have been conducting an experiment of late.  It is based on something I heard that states there is good even in the seemingly bad if I look for it.
I have had both good experiences and bad in the time.  It is easy to find good in good.  Not so easy to find good in seemingly bad.  But what has amazed me is in every case, without exception, I have been able to find good in seemingly or actual bad or undesirable.
It is not always immediately obvious, and at times I have really had to ponder where the good was.
But I really like looking for the good.  For me it is a way better mind set.  Bad is depressing.  Concentrating on bad inevitably leads to thinking that takes me to places I do not want to be.
It is not a Pollyanna outlook.  It calls a spade a spade.  But spades have a purpose.  They are good for digging.  Sometimes digging is required and can be used to unearth good things.  Often the good is not immediately obvious.
I remember hearing a story about a kid on a farm that broke his leg.  He could for a time not help around the farm.  The neighbour said, “that’s bad.”  At that time the king came by looking for troops for his army.  The kid was rejected because of his broken leg.  After they left the neighbour said, “that’s good.”
I do not know the big picture all at once.  Things can look bad but what do I know?  Long term it can turn out for the good.  My job is to hold onto that, do what I gotta do, and move on.
