That Adds Up

What a person’s bent is seems to come out fairly easily.
Someone sent me the age breakdown from the 2021 of the Burpengary census.  I had asked for it as I was interested in the stats on the area I live.  I had done a big breakdown  from the 2011 census of a number of suburbs in Moreton Bay.
It had told me not only the population of each area and the age groups, but things like who was working, what work were they doing, whether they owned their home, how many people were in each home and many other things.
The reason I bring it up is that no sooner had I gotten up and done my usual of reading my Bible and praying, then I was into the statistics of the area.
I guess it really shows I am a numbers person.  For some that would be like, “borrrrring” but for me it is really interesting.  I find other tasks like say dentistry or podiatry things I have no interest in, but some really like such things. Personally I am glad we like different things.  If everyone were into numbers we could have a real problem with teeth or feet. But we don’t.  The dentist matters, as does the podiatrist, as does the accountant.  All have a role that helps keep the wheels turning for society.
I was surprised to see that seniors (65+) only make up 11.5% of the population (around 3,000 people). Going shopping during the week seems to tell a different story, as there are many older people about.  I guess I do not need to be a rocket scientist to know the others are working or in the home.
By far the biggest percent of the age groups are the 25-64 year olds, which make up over 40% of the population.
I was surprised the figures did not add up to 100%.  Yet considering it, there would be those that object to filling out a census, those that forgot and those that gave wrong information.  All these things I imagine contributed to the discrepancy.
Yet what I found interesting is it gave me some idea of my neighbours.  Just taking a couple of streets around our place, I see that what is in the figures is reflected in the neighbourhood.
Others may just have one question.  “Why?” Probably only numbers people understand.
