Thankful

Bob Dylan sang “if there’s an original thought out there I could use it right now.”  That is the way I feel.  It is hard to write about something new when yesterday was similar to the day before and the day before that looked very much like the day following.
Still any pressure I feel is probably self-inflicted.  There is nothing saying I must write something everyday.  I could write nothing, and everyone would go on and do other things.
I am glad though I have committed myself to something new each day though.  I know it benefits me.  I tend to think about things I might otherwise have dismissed.  Mostly dismissing something would be to my detriment.  Besides writing between 400 and 600 words happens pleasantly quickly.  Sometimes I even need to cull to get something below 600.  It makes me more succinct.  Many words disappear as I realize not having them does not alter the meaning.  And if I write much less than 600 it gives me opportunity to expand it if I think of something relevant later.
Besides I have some things written I have never posted.  I can always put one of them in.  As a friend of mine advised “always allow yourself wriggle room.”  I like that.
My preferred option though is fresh.  I know that when I buy bread I tend to avoid what is on special.  That tends to be yesterday’s bread.  Although the price is good, it does not taste fresh.  I want fresh.  While I do not despise old stuff I have written (it was fresh at the time) I do like something new.  Something new means I remain alert.
As I say something new is sometimes hard.  Though digging for gold might be hard but finding it makes it worth it.  This morning I had nothing.  Now an hour later I have three things and it is a matter of finding the time.  Good problem to have I reckon.
Books help.  They take me places I may not have been considering at the time, but I like being there.
Like this morning.  I was reading something that is very American, but it mirrors the experience of Merril and I so much.  It was about thanksgiving.  The author was saying the shops tend to go straight from Halloween to Christmas.
We like and celebrate thanksgiving too but trying to find thanksgiving stuff in the shops has proved pretty well impossible.  As a result, if we see something orange, we tend to buy it.  The theory is also that we could fill in the Halloween image and paint stuff orange, but we have not been there.  Op shops have been good for what we need.  We got a big thanksgiving plate from there (how did we know it was a thanksgiving plate?  Really the turkey drawing gave it away.)  We also got pretend fruit from there.  Orange serviettes came from the store while cones came from finding them while going for a walk.
To us though it is not like we are only thankful on thanksgiving day.  As far as we are concerned every day is thanksgiving.  Like every day is Easter, and every day us Christmas (so please send me a present every day).  The day is just a reminder, and an excuse to celebrate.
I do think with Covid19 though reading about thanksgiving is a timely reminder.  It seems to me that in the midst of so much woe, I still have much to be thankful for.
