Team Sport

Well the women’s world cup has come and gone.  I enjoyed it but did not watch a lot of it.  I was interested in the results but kept turning back to it.  I saw the Spanish goal and loved the way they did it.
I must admit the way Spain played was what I enjoyed watching.  To me it was like watching a different form of playing.  England were like the way I have come to expect it.  An incredible amount of strategy with flashes of brilliance.
Spain seemed to be playing with such abandon.  To me it was like they had incredible skills and they built on them to play with a freedom I am not used to seeing.  I had watched Spain play Sweden and had come to the conclusion that Spain could be both brilliant and terrible.  It looked like they brought their A game to the finals.
I did like something I saw that is great when any team no matter what they are endeavouring to achieve, does.  They passed the ball crisply to each other.  Sometimes they were willing to go backwards in the quest to go forward while holding the ball.
That to me matters big time.  The goal is always the object.  Getting there within the rules is what matters.  Seeming setbacks (going backwards) are not always setbacks in the scheme of things.  Doors open up to the patient.
One thing that matters probably most in soccer and a number of ball games is having the ball.  I cannot score without the ball.  So the skills I work on the most are keeping the ball and being able to pass it accurately.
There is an opposition that is bent on taking the ball from me and their goal is to score as well.  That is what I endeavour to keep from happening.  It seems that sometimes my biggest opposition is myself.  If I stop believing in what I am doing or I am so hard on myself for blowing it, I am not just affected, but so is my team and perhaps the result.  The object to me is to get over it quickly, move on and win the game.  Perhaps even kick the winning goal.
Always remembering life is a team sport.  What I achieve is built on what we achieve.
