Tasks

I have been considering the division of labour.  When I say considering, I mean it crossed my mind.  When I say it crossed my mind, it means for a fleeting moment it was there.  I don’t even know if the term division of labour is right, but it sounds impressive.  I am happy to go with it for that reason alone.
I was thinking about how I do things.  My way has worked for me, and that is why I have stuck with it.
There are times when I might have ten tasks to complete.  Seven are easy, two are hard, and one is very hard.  What I tend to do is start with the easy ones and do the very hard one last.
The reason I start with the easy ones is twofold.   Firstly I would rather start with success then failure.  There are few things more disheartening then starting something and failing.  It is a real downer. It makes me question if I really want to go on.  On the other hand I like success.  It is something I can take to again and again.  The second reason I like to start with the easy ones is that I can knock over a lot and be on a roll.  This is not the same as having multiple pieces of paper scattered on a desk and making it one pile.  Sure things look neater but no task has been done.  To me, knocking off tasks is always satisfying.  The third reason I like to do the easy ones first is that… Actually that is three fold.  So I should say the reason I start with the easy ones is three fold.  The third reason I start there, is that in doing them I could learn things that will help me with the harder ones.
Having knocked off a heap of things, I feel then I am ready for the two harder ones.  They require more thought and effort to do, but the satisfaction gained is more than for the easier ones.
Having done them, I feel I am ready to tackle the hardest one.  There is a good chance I would have started it before.  I would not necessarily have done much but as they say “it’s a start.”  They reckon the hardest part of anything is getting started.  I have found that to be true.  I may not be interested, or like what I need to do, but that can change when I make a start.  Even if it doesn’t, I am on my way.  It is at that point I apply what I can from the other nine, and anything I may have picked up along the way.
I am open to better ways but as I say, it works for me. If it is within my brief, I am always happy to go with what works.
