Tapestry

Switchfoot have an album called “Where the Light Shines Through.”  It is based on a song of theirs of the same name.  It is about an unfinished tapestry.  Viewed from the back it is ugly and unfinished.  From the front, it is the makings of a beautiful picture.  How it is seen, all depends on the view.
There is no doubt bad stuff happens to good people.  So much does not make sense.  There are injustices done, I cannot understand and would not allow.  If I ran the show, things would be different.
What I really need to remember though, is I do not have the complete picture.  I will never justify injustices, and will do all within my power to correct them, and ensure they do not happen again.  The trouble for me though, is that good intentions are sometimes not enough.  Despite my best efforts, things go wrong.   There is so much why in the world.
It is when I don’t understand, I need to remember my limited view. I may be viewing the picture from the wrong side.  Also it is unfinished.  Who am I to judge something before it is over?  It is like watching a game of rugby league, and the result seems forgone, and I leave.  Only on returning do I find the team that was losing big time came back and won.  More than once that has happened to me.
Things happen that leave me aghast.  They are not right in anyone’s language.  But then I am not the boss.  In very few cases can someone say “You are responsible, and this is your fault.”  Believe me, I would do it differently, but that does not mean I would do it better.  There are things that happen that will never be understood by me, this side of eternity.
Despite how much I may not like what happens, I am grateful for the choice.  I would always rather have a choice than be a robot.  The consequences though of being free to choose, can be devastating.  Things happen that are terribly wrong, no matter which way they are looked at.  I saw something on Facebook the other day that coupled love with choice.  I had not made that association, though I suppose without love, being free to choose is potentially a poisoned challis.
Personally I do not know any other way to do it.  I am really thankful I can make decisions, but I am really sorry that choices can also be made, that have such a negative impact on others.
My view of the tapestry is incomplete.  I need to view it from the other side to get a true picture.  In the meantime, I will do what I can.
