Systematically

This is one of those things I am sort of gob smacked at.  Someone suggested I did not need to look up the dictionary for a word as I could use methodical.  I was being smart wondering aloud how I would go about that.
I chose a word of the dictionary.  I had to go to a word in an upside-down book when I opened my eyes.  My finger pointed to the word “systematic”.  First part of definition “methodical.”
I guess there really is a method to my madness.  I really like to make  list of things that need to be done.  That is for a couple of reasons bur sure as eggs I will forget something if I do not write it down.  I probably derive an inordinate amount of joy in crossing things out hen they are done but it really is a good feeling.
They reckon one of the reasons places like Facebook are so addictive is the little bursts of pleasure users derive from “likes.”   There is some pleasure stuff in the brain that is produced every time satisfaction is gained.  Some live for that and that it does not need any face to face interaction to produce.
Anyway I digress.  I think the system I use amplifies my satisfaction.  I like to write down all the steps involved in a process.  Fixing a table was a good point.  Instead of just “fix table”.  It is like “get glue”, “get hacksaw”  get rid of broken pot rivet” “apply glue”, “let dry and test.”  There ended up being other steps I had not thought about.  I needed a moist rag to clean the area.  I needed a screw driver to encourage a locking device to move.  I needed wd40 to  loosen the locking mechanism.
All being well my philosophy is to make something look like I had never been there when finished.  In the end the table was fixed.  Another digression is we had been given that table by a guy selling tables cheap as he was going into another business.  Covid had hit his catering business hard.  He gave it to us as he said it was broken.  It was.  But it was an easy fix.  The proof is I fixed it.
What I find so often in my systems is things take longer and involve more than was in my mind.  I see it going perfectly.  When it comes to doing it, other things are involved I did not know about.  I may achieve the desired result, but the time frame is often blown out.
(Sometimes like the other day my desired result is abandoned.  All was going according to plan and there was just one plant to deal with.  I had smelt a snake though.  Sure enough he was under that plant.  The plant remains.  I have decided it looks good there.)
Still what matters to me is the desired result is achieved -even if circumstances require a change.  Things get crossed of my list which I go through systematically.
