Switchfoot

I was cleaning out my email when I came across an article concerning the favourite band of Merril and myself called Switchfoot.  The members of the band love to surf and Switchfoot is a surfing term that according to Jon Forman the leader of the band means “to take a new stance facing the opposite direction. It’s about change and movement, a different way of approaching life and music.”
“Friends, there’s no easy way to say this. After years of sharing the road, Drew and the band have decided to take different paths, and will be parting ways. He joined us shortly after the release of our 4th album and we’ve shared an incredible journey, full of countless highs and lows together. We love Drew dearly, and we are so thankful for the time and memories we have had. This has certainly been a difficult season for us, encountering challenges that have ultimately taken us in different directions. We have always said that our friendships are more important than the band. And it’s still true: our love for each other is so much bigger than rock and roll. We are excited to see what the next chapter holds for Drew, and also for Switchfoot. We are beyond thankful for the support that all of you have shown us during this challenging time and we remain committed to this community, each other, and to the journey we share together. More now than ever before, hope deserves an anthem.
Drew: we are fans, friends and brothers for life.
Much love to you all, Switchfoot - jon, tim, chad, jerome
I guess it is inevitable that members of bands go separate ways or that bands break up.  Switchfoot have been going decades without a change.  I discovered today that the lead singer is 46 this year.  Still young compared to me but getting long in the tooth.
One of their songs is the first video on my website (http://nothomeyet.net/videos-others.html).   It is called Awakening and I, like the band, felt it deserved a wider audience than their record label catered for.
A number of their songs have featured as a background music to events Merril and I have been a part of (https://www.youtube.com/user/cattlegrazing/videos).
We consider “The Sound” our song (https://youtu.be/Bq-gVnBpTpE) even if it is headbanging stuff.  “Thrive” from Vice Verses (https://youtu.be/-xIBsjGQBUU) formed the background music to our attending Edwards baptism. while “Golden” was the music for our family get together in 2018 (https://youtu.be/9zAzigIvNtw).
We both love many different musicians and bands, but Switchfoot has been there for special events.
