Sustain

Merril chose the word from the dictionary. She choses better words then me. The would her finger fell o was “sustain.” Seems appropriate really. I was having trouble with a word today. It was feeling hard to sustain the writing each day. But at least with this word I have something to work with that is not too cryptic.
The way this rain is going feels like a sustain thing. We looked in our gauge this morning and we have had 50 mls since the event. It just seems this rain goes on and on. It is sustained and there would be only windows of opportunity to do something outside if I felt that way inclined. Which I don’t.
I have been getting cancers cut out of me. Two on the back of my hand and one on my knee. There is one where I reckon the stiches have come out too early. The stiches are to sustain the pressure on either side so the wound closes as it should.
I look at it now. I am a wimp when it comes to such things. I do not think Merril telling me it is enough to scare small children helps. Anyway, the cut is in a z like fashion for which Merril gave a name. It was lost on me. I just want to see it come together. I am not sure I am enjoying this sustained suspense.
Sustain does have several meanings. It can be a holding of something together or up, or it can be an undergoing of something (like sustaining an injury), or as I am seeing it, to continue for an extended period. I do have a sustain pedal on my keyboard and I love it. It really fills stuff in when not much is happening. Someone I know had a piano where the sustain pedal did not work. Boy was that different for me.
Sustain is very much like perseverance. That seems to be something lacking a lot in this day and age of instant consumerism.
I reckon I am ok but I do have a lot of trouble with that one.
Because I do so much sitting around these days I am getting a gut. I joke it away by saying “you can tell a man is on the level il if his bubble is in the middle.” That changes nothing. I know I will only get rid of it with a sustained period of exercise. It is not some thing where the issue could be solved overnight.
It seems the more I think about it the more I find that is a sustain thing. I see people interviewed and they are asked the same question so many ways. A slip of the tongue can be a story. It seems it takes something special to maintain a particular line despite sustained questioning.
For me sustain is pretty appropriate right now. There are things I want I realize can only be obtained via sustained application. Even when going a different way may be easier it does not get me what I am after.
I love that things are seasonal. Sometimes I am right into it and sometimes it would be easier to walk away. Whatever the case though, I know that if I sustain something I am after through thick or thin, not feeling like it will pass, and again I will be right into it.
