Suspicion

Wow.  Dictionary day.  I spun it around as per normal not knowing which way it was or where the front or back was.  My finger fell on the word “suspicion.”  I actually think the process is above suspicion.
The definition is “the state of mind of one who suspects.”  Looking it up on-line it is defined as a feeling or thought that something is possible, likely or true.  Mirriam-Webster defines it a “the act or an instance of suspecting something wrong without proof or on slight evidence.”
It is a pet theory of mine that suspicion is based on the outlook of another.  I find that if someone sees another as dishonest, and accuses them of motives that are either not there or just a small part of a makeup, they are accused of that trait big time.  The accuser has the nature they accuse another of.  
That may not always be the case but it often is.  I am seeing it big time in world politics at the moment.
It seems there are those that come under suspicion justifiably.  Their actions lead others to think their motives are leading to unacceptable actions.  Some are paid to be suspicious.  Mostly things are ok but sometimes they are not.
Running a business we used to work on the basis that everyone was honest but investigate like everyone was dishonest.  It is unfortunate that that was necessary. But unfortunately it was.  We proved it a couple of times as some were caught stealing from us.
We even see it in our Market.  We practically give stuff away with all proceeds going to a food pantry - yet it is the case that some will attempt to get something for nothing.  There are those we know are in genuine need that would not think of taking stuff and we do our best to help those.  Others are in genuine need but unfortunately endeavour to take advantage of good will.
Suspicion is not my default position, but sometimes it is justified because I am not all knowing and there are those who will take advantage of others.  One day things will be different but right now they are not.
