Surprise, surprise

“It’s holiday time hurrah, hurrah, I’m going by ship, I’m going by car.”  Yep.  Amazing.  I made that up and you know the person responsible for something so profound.  There is no doubt in my mind that receiving such flashes of brilliance is a humbling experience.
I was probably about 15 when I wrote that.  So it was more than two years ago.
There have been a few holidays since then but what has remained constant has been the sense of adventure and break with routine that has accompanied every holiday.  Even if this time we plan to veg and read books and go for walks and contemplate it is nice to get away.
We went to the shops yesterday.  It does not matter where I go shops look alike.  I really felt I could have been in Morayfield shopping centre yesterday.  But I wasn’t.  I was here and glad to be.
We lashed out and bought some prawns.  We had them for dinner last night.  I also bought some uncooked ones for bait.
We had found a fishing place on our walk in the morning.  We arrived at a park adjoining a beach where we decided we could fish.  There was a guy doing yoga.  The said the place was good because it was so peaceful.  He said it ought to be as it was called Pacific something or other.  Pacific means peaceful.  Anyway we decided it was a good place for fishing.
I received tow unexpected phone calls.  One was from a guy going on holidays whose vehicle broke down.  It had been towed back to his home.  So he rang to say he was home.  Another guy rang who said he had been as sick as a dog.  I rang someone else to tell him about our mutual friend.  He was in hospital!
It sort of all reinforces how some of us are getting long in the tooth and ailments can be an unwelcome part of the last period of lives.  Basically what I had been reading in the book on aging.
There was one good thing uniting all though.  It was the hope all had.  Not that this period was only an end of life, but a beginning of life.  I like that as it is a hope I share.  A hope not born of wishful thinking but one I have found for myself, and so willingly follow in the path of a multitude of trailblazers.
Day two of the holiday was interesting.  Now for day three.
