Suddenly

An image from a song I was listening to stood out to me today.  “One tear in the driving rain.” 
It had me think of what is happening right now.  People are going about their normal lives.  They may be shopping or preparing a meal with the family around.  Suddenly a bomb shatters their lifestyle and everything changes.  It is not seen coming.  It is not prepared for.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason and the world will never be the same.
My thoughts went then to disease and famine and how people suffer through no fault of their own.  Seemingly in the wrong place at the wrong time.  It is not just bad things that can happen suddenly, but they often sure make an impression.
What never ceases to amaze me is how suddenly the world can change.  As a result of 9/11 suddenly the world seemed different.  And when the pandemic was declared.  It was like my world would never be the same again.
Reminds me of how I deal with spiders.  Things are one way for them and suddenly they cease to exist.  I do like that spiders often play dead which gives me time to get what I need so they are not playing any more.
Experience shows it is not just a spider thing.  It is a close to home thing and sometimes it is a personal thing.  Like when my bro passed.  He had a few conditions, and we had an arrangement where I would ring him every day.  One day there was just no answer.  I was ringing constantly.  I did not know if this was a false alarm or what.  When I visited to find out why he was not answering, I discovered it was not a false alarm.  The world suddenly changed.  What I had planned was put on the back burner.  There were heaps of things that needed to be done.  Not at my leisure, but immediately.
The thing for me is things can change suddenly.  I am unwise to presume otherwise.  It is no wonder I am encouraged to tell someone I love them now as I do not know what the future holds.  It does not mean I fear for the future.  I just need to be prepared for the future.
I remember a guy at work many years ago saying “never presume.”  Great advice.  I know I have done it to my detriment in the past.  I also remember a guy having no plan B and plan A depended on others who failed to show.
Presumption to me is a no no.  That does not mean I worry unnecessarily but I take all the action I can and know to do.  For me being prepared is as good as it gets.
