Study

I had grabbed the dictionary with the thought of doing a word when I heard the tv in the other room.  I thought Merril’s awake and as it was her turn to find a word, I gave the dictionary to her.  Her finger fell on the word “study’”
It did evoke mixed feelings in me.  Perhaps it is because I am tired.  I am doing this now because we are going out later and I reckon I will be less inclined to write it after eating.  I reckon there is a good chance I will just want to sleep.  I find writing much easier when I am conscious.
I have done a bit of study in my time.  Not a lot but some.  All my study these days is “unofficial.”  I have a Diploma and Cert 3 in something else, but I dropped out of Uni.  It was early enough for it not to be recorded as a failure.  I have a few memories of my time there, but the most vivid one is of the Salmon sandwiches the canteen served.  I thought they were beautiful.
I also remember a psychology class where the teacher just stopped mid-sentence and did not move and stared straight ahead.  Perhaps he just needed a little nudge like we used to do when records got stuck and would not move on without assistance.  I don’t think that would have worked though.  He was looking for reactions.  We all got uncomfortable.
I also remember a dog I reckon was possessed.  I walked past it and acted all friendly like (not attempting to pat it).  You know, more like “hello dog, how are you today?”  And “So what do you think about the French revolution?”  Actually, not like that either.  I was doing psychology and not a lunatic trying to take over the asylum.  Though one would be forgiven for wondering.
This dog’s reaction was over the top.  It barked and snarled big time.  For me it was like, “alright be like that.”  But it sure made an impression.  That was over 40 years ago but I still remember.
I had someone say to me today they thought they may think too much.  I have never thought that about them.  They are from another country and have spent a few years studying to be a doctor.  When I talk to them, I know they know stuff.
I reckon one time I visited the hospital I was guilty of thinking too much.  It was a different ward so I thought gowns were different.  I spent ages getting into the gown and emerged feeling like an Old Testament prophet who had gathered up his robe and girded his loins.  When I got to where I was going the only comment was “I think you over thought this.”
I do study some these days.  If a topic interests me, I tend to look at it from several different angles.  I am big on proving things for myself when I can rather than accepting everything I am told.  Many things do not matter, and I don’t investigate.  But things that impact my life and outlook I will study to see if what I am told it is the case.
