Strong Silent Type

People seem to often equate being smart with being silent.  More than once I have had nothing to add to an intelligent conversation, and people imagine I know more than I do.  When I hear that I continue to keep silent rather than give the game away.
So I think I will be quiet and some will mistake it for being smart.
 
 
Nup. That is it.  Gotta say something.  If I will need to live with giving it away, so be it.  Did I think that or say it?   But if you wouldn’t mind, please imagine I am keeping silent even when I am talking and help me maintain the belief of some that I am smart when I am saying nothing.  Even though my talking may cause some to form an alternative view.
It probably goes without saying that I think I am handling Merril’s absence well.  But I am keeping silent.  If I were to say anything that would be it.  Please imagine that is what I said.
I was out and about this morning.  There were silences then.  Between saying stuff.  Like “cash or card.” Surprisingly no one’s jaw dropped.  Probably only because they did not have time.  It was almost like they were expecting it.
One guy said “that was quick.  Quicker than the supermarkets.”  Trouble was I asked if we could quote him, and he just laughed.  Another person I showed the charge on the phone and they told me it was just black.  Sure enough it was.  I told them that was the night time view.  People behind just laughed.  Further research shows that was not really the night time view.
It never ceases to amaze me how quickly people’s strengths come to the fore.  One lady did a count of how many were in the shop (it is a small shop, and we need to limit the numbers in at a time).  I thought “she would be a great organizer.”  Sure enough, I found out she is involved in this sort of thing elsewhere.
It is very obvious it meets a need.  All sorts of people use the place.  Though everyone is treated well it is clear some are just using us while some depend on us.  One guy told me he had a family of five to feed and a place like ours made a difference to him.
That is what I would have said if I was not keeping silent.
