Strike while the Iron is Hot

22/4/2021

Well that is different from what I thought.  Today was “spread the ashes day.”  Merril and I had been planning and organizing things for our trip today.  I remembered to phone my other bro at 9 pm.  It was then I found out it is organized for a week today.  I re-read his email.  Yep, it is there.  I had assumed it was the day after I suggested.  It was a week and a day after.
Anyway, that makes today a normal Thursday free of appointments.  It is actually a bit of a relief to us.  We now have today doing things that needed doing but we had set aside to do another time.  Someone at table tennis told us we now do not have next week off.  We were not thinking that far ahead.  Tomorrow (which is today) was free!
It made me think though, I need to strike while the iron is hot.  Yesterday I had grandiose plans, but I slept instead.  I did some of what I had in mind later in the day.  As I am fond of saying, there is a time for everything, and today is not the time to veg.  I have places to go, things to do, but not people to see.
I figure that if I just get in and do it, I will not have time to think about it.  I find the thinking about it is the dangerous thing.  Thinking about it before it is decided is a must, but when I know it is the thing to do, it does not help to keep on giving it thought.  I tend to talk myself out of something if I think about it after I have decided it is the way to go.  Really the only thinking about it I should do is planning the best way to do it as I do it.
Today for me is going to be the continuation of “tidy the garden shed” day.  It sure looks better already but I need to deal with the large pots.  I am now doing something I saw on Gardening Australia.  I used to use broken up bricks and stones as a base for pot plants.  That made them really heavy.  Merril will sand and paint wooden fold up tables and clean up a couple of sinks.
I am older now.  I would like to think older and wiser but that is debatable.  I use broken up polystyrene as a base for plants (instead of rocks).  Way lighter and more manageable.  We have had a pile of soil delivered and I will set up some pots to be good to go.  It will be just an “add plants” thing.
We have plans.  In my mind it all goes smoothly.  The theory is sound.  In practice who knows how it will be but if the aim is achieved, we will be happy.
