Strength

Douglas MacArthur said “They make you strong enough to know when you are weak, and brave enough to face yourself when you are afraid.”  I really love that.  I guess I relate to it being such a brave strong person and all.  But you already knew that.
It got me thinking about strength.  There are guys out there that seem to have muscles on their muscles.  When ever I see Venice Beach there are shirtless guys wandering around or doing push ups.  Bar hum bug.  Anyone can do that.  I remember I did a push up once.
The same bullet can kill the strongest person as the weakest person.  In fact if the weaker person has cunning and guile they may dodge the bullet that the strong person walks straight into.  Being strong is handy for lifting heavy things though.  What may take two weak people to lift, can sometimes be done by one strong person.  A girl at work said something like “men are good for reaching high places and lifting stuff.”  It is good to be good for something.
I do remember at QUT we had to take tins of coin to the bank.  The bank was one floor up in a building.  I would put the tins on a trolley and take the lift.  We were employing a guy who was right into the gym.  He grabbed a tin and ran up the stairs.  It sure did look impressive but I thought why bother?  Yeah yeah. I could have done it, but I would have been a wreck after doing it once.  The lift was like it was made for me.  I sold a fish tank one time.  It was big, awkward and heavy.  Did that stop the guy who bought it from carrying it himself?  Nope.
Still, if I had a choice of strength and subtly or weakness and subtly, I would go for the former every time.  Two strings in the bow are better than one.  Or is that two heads are better than one?  I would not like two heads though.  I reckon I would get even more stares.
What I got out of what he was saying is that I would rather a person with me who was strong but recognised their weakness that someone who knew only strength.  Brut strength I think it is called.  For me it is desirable to associate with a person who has known weakness but turned it into strength.  That person seems to have more empathy.   Not all have muscles on their muscles.  Not all are physically powerful.
Physical strength is import to me, but it is not the only passport.  Other things are important.  Often what one lacks, another has.  It is probably why we need each other.
