Standard

If the standard I set for myself is another person, I am sure to disappointed.  What they are doing may inspire and be a building block for what I am wanting to achieve, but the person, like everyone, is flawed.
It is one of the reasons I do not adhere to a political party or some leader that arises and seemingly says all the right things.    Anyone else may be well meaning or not; they may have a hidden agenda or not; or they may be someone who I agree with wholeheartedly and admire.  Yet they are flawed.  What may not as yet be known is revealed in time without fail.  There is only one I give allegiance to, who has not failed me.
In many ways I think it is better to come from that angle now than to be disappointed down the track.  Chances are, I have invested a lifetime into something found to be not what it claimed to be.
It is not likely to happen, but by the same token I do not want anyone to think I am a standard to live by.  I am happy to be an inspiration and perhaps a mentor, but I want it known that I am like anyone.  Flawed.
I was watching a documentary about famous actors and singers yesterday and someone said something that I reckon is true.  This person was told money does not change you, it reveals you.  Why I find that fascinating in relation to standard setting is that so often a standard is one thing until something else reveals another, perhaps undesirable element to their self.
I have elements of personality that are revealed only as I walk down the track.  Often I do not know what I am capable of until a situation arises.  This can be both good or bad for anyone.  But as far as I am concerned it is the great unknown.
A person may have led an exemplary life containing many elements worth embracing, yet I know of only one person who has led a life guaranteed not to disappoint when followed.  That is the standard of this flawed person.
