Stand My Ground

Suncorp is running an ad at the moment highlighting modifying housing to take account more extreme fires, cyclones and flood.
I really don’t know that I have seen a time when so many disasters happen so quickly.  It seems once it was only third world countries where mega bad things happened.  They still happen there, but increasingly they seem to be happening in first world countries too.
Right now, there are fires in Turkey that are claiming numerous houses and some lives.  Recently floods ravaged Germany.  It was totally unexpected.  Pictures show towns totally devastated and billions of dollars damaged.  It seems to happen regularly in India and Bangladesh but floods there are mind blowing to look at.
Many are mico disasters but as I have always maintained many small make a large.  Right now, there are many small though the pandemic is big and world-wide.
Much has been blamed on climate change.  I do agree that we are contributing to what we now see but I do believe it goes further than that.  Much is made of Nostradamus’s predictions and their accuracy.  There is a book I refer to that predicts all this and even the reasons given for it happening.
It sure is easier to say than do, but I know I would be burying my head in the sand if I though bad things only happened elsewhere.  Floods and fire here showed me bad things can and do happen anywhere.
There is a saying I heard today that sums me up “I’m going to stand my ground where hope is found.”  Hope seems to be the biggy these days.  When talking about mental health hope or the lack of it is always mentioned.
The hope prescribed is not necessarily something that is embraced readily by some.  In fact, it is resisted.  Reasons are found and given that explain what is happening.  It seems that any reason is accepted except one.
But as they say in the classics and not so classics, “not my problem.”  I will always be ready to give a reason for any hope I have, but I am not walking in someone else’s shoes and everyone is responsible for their own walk.
The news is both really good and really not good.  It is good because it has an end and a good end, but it is not good because what we see is but the beginning.  No doubt it is not popular to say and if I really thought different, I would say different but I just cannot see it.  All the signs point in the same direction.  We may know peace and tranquillity, but it will always be shorter and shorter in between perplexing things.
All I can think is enjoy it while I can because things that will have me scratching my head in bewilderment will happen.  To me it will only be then I will determine if my hope is built on something solid or quicksand.
