sports nut

I admit it. I’m a sports nut.
I have played tennis, squash, soccer, hockey, Aussie Rules and cricket in teams. 
In tennis I remember in doubles serving straight into the back of the head of my partner.  In squash I had my nose broken by a racquet.  I remember the blood needing to be mopped up.  My nose was flattened and made crocked.  Mum said it was an improvement.    We had a team and we called ourselves the Constellations, that is “a group of stars!”  Boy were we dreaming.  In a big comp a really good player had 10 minutes to beat me or he would forfeit a game he really wanted to play.  He did it with time to spare.  In soccer I scored a goal.  The ball skewed off my foot.  The goalie had no chance cause I had no idea where it was going either.
In cricket I umpired a match and went up in an appeal with the fielding team.  I felt obliged to give the batsman out.  My finest moment was bowling to an A Grade opener.  I thought this one I’ll pitch up full and faster.  Bowled!  I don’t know who was more surprised – him or me.  Worst moment. A guy pretending the ball had not come back yet so I took off for another run.  Run out!  I had a guy umpire who was almost blind.  I figured all one had to do was appeal and the batsman was given out.  In hockey I had a tooth knocked out.  I had a false tooth installed that I chewed off twice and then gave it a miss.
I have never been the best or worst but always been good at making up the numbers.
I only play table tennis now.  I like it because you can play until you are 400.
At State of Origin time we always have a get together.  We have had a sin bin.  My wife tends to revel in being sent there.  We have had a corporate box.  It was a cardboard box around a chair.  We waited on the person in it all night.  We had a team song.  This was the early 2000 and we did not get to sing much.
We are getting together this Sunday night to watch the NRL final.  It should be good.  Oh and so should the footy.
