It was the worst game of Aussie Rules I have ever seen.  It was a pity really.  Merril and I had taken along some one from England who had never been to one.  It was to experience Australian culture.  He did, but it was not good culture.
There are a lot of games I like ahead of Aussie Rules.  Like many games I played it.  When I say I played it, I had one game.  I had seen the Brisbane Roar in its heyday.  They were good games to watch.
The one we saw was not though.  We took our friend a couple of years ago when the Lions were at a really low ebb.  I think they may have only played one game worse.  That was the next week.    The good thing about being at the bottom is there is only one way up.
Watching some things live for me is too tense.  I marvel that two sides can play for 100 minutes and the scores be locked up.  One advantage to going to the ground to watch is a person gets to see what is happening off the ball.  TV tends to focus on the ball when there is so much else happening in Aussie Rules.
I like Ruby League, cricket, soccer, tennis and Rugby Union ahead of Aussie Rules.  If watching the grass grow was a sport, I would probably like it ahead of Aussie Rules too.  I remember saying to someone Rugby Union needs to be played well to be good, but when it is, it is very good.
Sport can be boring to watch too though.  I went to a Sheffield Shield game at the MCG between NSW and Victoria.  There was one four hit all afternoon.  The most entertaining part for me was a heckler.  He called out to the batsman “aim for the gaps, there’s one between Dyson’s ears.”
I tend to like to watch women’s sport.  I like it for obvious reasons, but also because I can actually see the ball.  Merril and I have watched a bit of ice hockey on tv.  Except for the scoring it is a great sport to watch.  Blowed if I can see the puck when they shoot.  I only know a team has scored by the jubilation they express and the score changing.
Ok in women’s sport things tend to be slower but at least I can follow what is happening.  They also seem to have longer rally’s in tennis.  I will always appreciate skill and speed, but I do like to be able to see what is happening.
Squash is good to play, but terrible to watch.  I have played a bit of squash, but I have some sad tales.  I had my nose broken playing squash.  My opponents’ racquet and my nose tried to occupy the same space at the same time.  The blood just burst from my nose.  The guy in charge of the centre got his mop and bucket to clean it up.  Mum saw my nose and said it was an improvement.  It must have really been bad I reckon.
Now I am a good watcher of sport.  Ok I may not make the firsts, but I would be in second division or a high level third division watcher.
