Well I am impressed.  Then again, I am fairly easily impressed.  I find the images that the Hubble Telescope has taken are amazing.  Ok they had problems when they first installed it.  It was out of focus.  Bit like how I see writing on the tv screen.  I am in the process of having that corrected.

To test it they pointed the telescope at a blank section of sky.  As far as we could tell there was nothing there.  The test revealed otherwise.  There were stars galore further out.  I am agog at some of the images I have seen from that telescope. It is being retired soon and replaced by the more powerful James Webb telescope.

My brother is a star gazer.  I don’t know if I have his patience.  He has sectioned off the sky and can say what is being looked at.  I just have to take his word for it as I really do not have a clue, but I know it is impressive.  I will never forget the first time I saw Saturn’s rings through his telescope.  I thought what I was looking at was beautiful.  He has sky programs.  Apart from a layout of the sky, other pages allow things to be done that I had no idea needed to be done.

Working at QUT had its advantages.  I saw Jupiter traversing in front of the sun.  Special filters were needed to look in that direction.  Someone had everything set up on a lawn which allowed us to view the event.  To this day I carry an image of a ball making its way across the sun.  Sorta made me feel special.  I am sure I was only one of several million that saw the event.

My brother has been responsible for a number of space books being around.  People used to buy Playboy for the articles (yeah right).  The pictures just got in the way.  I am the opposite when it comes to space books.  I read them for the pictures.
Sometimes I read the articles with varying degrees of success.  These days the internet provides a lot to look at and read.

Whether I am looking through a telescope, or a book, or gazing up from where I am at the sky, I am blown away.  I get head spins these days, so it is best I lay on the ground and look up at the night sky, or I am holding on to something when I do it.

I remember Lucky Eddie and Hagar looking at the night sky and Lucky Eddie saying something like “look at those stars, they are amazing” and Hagar responding, “yes they are so small and puny and we’re so big.”  However I look at the sky I realize the opposite.  I am so small and puny, and something is so big.  Bigger than me anyway.
