Sorry but not really

Sorry But Not Really
I am late writing this.  But it is not my fault.  It was my upbringing.  I am needy.  Please send money as it may help.
If 9 pm is the new midnight, then midnight is like the new 5 am.  I saw midnight.  Don’t look much different to 9 pm really.  Both are dark.
We had a musical get together.  We have done it a number of times over the years.  But we are all getting long in the tooth now.  Believe it or not, even me and I am one of the young ones.  It was like a reunion tour except we did not tour and made sure we were in bed at a reasonable hour.
There was one fella not there.  He plays ukulele. He was in Mackay.  When one player heard that, his compassion shone through when he said, “that’s no excuse.”
There was sax, piano, double bass, and singers.  The double bass player and the pianist could sing.  For the sax player it was an “either or” thing.  Trying to sing with the mouthpiece in the mouth looks odd.  I do not sing much these days.  My throat has been affected.  It could be disputed if I ever really could sing, but these days it is more hit and miss – mostly miss.  As far as notes are concerned, I am often there abouts.  But when we jam, I forget that.  I let loose.  It is better the doors are locked so it does not clear the room.
The double bass player plays a lot.  Every chance he gets, and he gets a lot of chances.  He is really good.  Makes me sick.  Actually I love it.  We have been jamming together starting in Townsville.
The sax player used to play a lot but not so much these days.  Fairdinkum he could bring tears to a glass eye.  Every chance we get, we throw to him for a solo.  He confessed to me what I had been doing a lot of in preparation.  Practicing.  We played mostly in one key and that helped us master what was needed.  There were requests and that threw us.
But we all play by ear.  Not meaning we use our ear to play the instrument, but we can mostly pick up a song by listening to it.  Sometimes odd chords are thrown in and that is guaranteed to set the cat among the pigeons.
The singers sing along – and we do not even need to pay them to do it.  It is wonderful others get into.  We are.  All the voices are great.  One lady who sings with the band sings beautiful harmony.  At our peak we sang and played to thousands.  Oh, that was just in my head.
Some things are gifts.  Getting together with people last night and each time, has been like a gift.  I love them and love what we do.  Each of us know it will be a forever thing.
