Solutions

I am one who is very much for providing a solution and not just stating a problem.  It really does not matter to me that my solution may not be gone with (though I prefer it is).  I just think it is really unfair to say this is the problem you fix it.  Sometimes I am the solution to the problem, and I need to be prepared and willing for that eventuality, rather than just to state the problem.

I happen to believe the best way to assess someone is by their actions.  I’ve written letters to the editor (published) praising two people from different parties.  While I did not agree with the ideology of one, I really felt that when push came to shove, they acted in what they perceived were the best interests of all.  I can only be thankful for that.

I appreciate that for some that is a bridge too far.  For some it is my way or not at all.  To me everyone is worth hearing, but not everyone is worth following.  If my solution is not the best, I need to be willing to make variations.  If it is, my consolation is that I remain true to myself, even if what I think is not popular with some.  It has been said that you can’t please all the people all the time.  I have found that to be true.  Sometimes an individual going with a particular solution is a lonely place.

I guess my point is that all knowledge does not start and end with me.  I may like to believe that it does, but experience has taught me otherwise.  Too me, where it is possible, acting on a multitude of views often lends itself to a better outcome than just declaring the way I see it as the way it is going to be.

I am reminded of one of those set ups where someone in their finery is perched on a board above water.  People take shots at a leaver, that when hit, causes the plank the person is on to be pulled out from under them, and they plummet into the water.  I see what I do so often like that.  Someone takes the now sopping wet persons place, and the process starts again.

As a family man I arrive at solutions all the time.  The object is to enable space to grow for all of us within a framework.  The object is not to cause havoc.  I would like to think that when a solution is not the best one, I am open to variations.

It is not a case of any solution will do.  It needs to be the right solution for us.  Sometimes I have it, sometimes someone else does and sometimes it is a combination.  Based on the available information, it is the right or best solution that is needed.  Rather than an individual, sometimes the right or best solution is arrived at by a group of not all-knowing people.

Some solutions are really easy and others harder.  Some solutions are not as cut and dry as others.  I sorta see solutions as like on a line.  One side says right (right seems such a politics thing, but this has nothing to do with politics) and the other says wrong.  To the extreme of the right side are cut and dry answers.  Yet to me a solution can be right but it is not cut and dry.  The solution needs considering.  A person does not profit from cut and dry, but they do profit from right.

These are troubling times.  But troubling does not mean impossible.  The government works on solutions, and I need to work on my own.
