Small Things

My study gets untidy so easily.  I am pretty good elsewhere, but the cleanliness can end at the door of the study.  I start well, then it becomes “oh I’ll just put this here for the moment.”  Before long stuff is being added and it is necessary to set aside a block of time to fix my room.  Not to make progress, but just to get it back to a sane level.
I was thinking this morning it is not the big things all at once that make the mess.  It is the little things.  More rightly the many little things.  I generally do not walk into my study and suddenly find a huge pile I was totally unaware of that needs dealing with.  Mostly it is many little things that have become a big thing.
I was renting to one person and saw they had a power board on cloths in the middle of the room.  I felt I needed to say something as I really did not want the place burning down.
I do not think my study is too bad.  It is not like I cannot move in there.  It is mostly paperwork that needs to be filed.  Filing is not my favourite past time, but it does have to be done.  I started out with one draw for that.  Now it is two draws.  The good thing about paper is it can be pressed down to allow a lot more in.  Also, it does not stop the draw from opening like the harder stuff can.  Comes a time though, when enough is enough and it is time to act.
I’m pretty pedantic when it comes to shared stuff.  My thinking is everything has a place and I try to store everything pertaining to that item together.  So that if it is lost it is all lost!  If on the other hand a part of it is here and another part there, I may find one thing but be short the other.  I can end up spending hours looking for something when those hours were meant to be for doing something with the items.
As I say, I can be not so dogmatic when it comes to my study.  My loss is my loss.  The room is pretty good, but I have noticed a build-up.  Not a big hit one, but a many smaller things one.  The sort of thing where if it had been dealt with correctly at the time, it would not be a problem now.  But Houston, we have a problem.
I am sure there is a lesson for me here somewhere, but if I have not got it after more than 60 years, time is running out.  I am just glad that for most of the place, I deal with the small things before they become big things.
