Slow Down

It happened again! Washing up has so much to teach me. You should try it!! (that is tongue in cheek but I am amazed at the things I pick up along the way. And I don’t just mean picking up a cup to wash it.)
Today I was doing the cutlery and goodness knows why I thought I should hurry. But in that moment I thought “what is the point of hurrying if I don’t do it properly?” It is pointless putting it out to dry if it has gunk on it and needs to be done again.
I am so not into handling things twice if I can help it. It is a reason I put things where they belong. Otherwise it is a second trip to finish something that could have been finished in one trip.
Anyway that is by the by. Later I thought of a song I like that has the words “we’ve got to slow down to catch up.” I really think that. I was reading something the other day and thought what if the point of hurrying if I don’t get it. I know there is a whole speed reading thing that needs to be learned but I wanted to get what I was reading now. It was not just words on a page and part of a course, it was something I wanted to get my head around.
I do not know much about the Block but I do like they have a week or whatever it is to get where they have been right. I know I may not get something right the first time. I am just giving it my best shot and maybe that falls short of an acceptable standard. But one thing I do know is I get better at it the more I do it.
It seems to be a case of the more I know the more I realize I don’t know. It really is a case of “but wait, there’s more.” A whole world tends to open up but the only way to discover a world is to start the journey. I tend to do things smarter. It is funny the better I get the faster I get.
Haste is not a prerequisite to a job well done. Attention to detail is. No car hits 60 klms an hour immediately. It is always 0 – 60 in whatever number of seconds. It is the quality of the car that determines how quickly it gets there. If it is shoddy it may not even get there.
To me the aim is to get there. I may be slow to start with but getting there then is a good foundation to build a better car on.
So I cleaned the gunk off the spoon. I did not break any land speed records doing it but it is done properly. Well I thought so anyway. All will be revealed.
