Sloth

28/10/2019

I could call today a day of rest but it is not Sunday and that would be overstating it.  Probably a day of sloth would be closer to the mark.  Although I did spend some time vertical which is always a good thing.
I probably should not understate the amount of energy I had to expend going from my chair back to the bed either.  Sometimes I diverted to make a coffee when going from the bed to the chair.  Judging by the need to sit down it must have been exhausting.
I did watch a Clint Eastwood produced movie though.  That is the third one of his I have seen, and I do love what he produces.  I had seen the one about the lady boxer and Grand Torino.  They are always bitter/sweet to me.  He does not do the typical Hollywood thing and make everything have a happy ending.  His movies seem to be true to life.  Characters are real.  Both ugly and beautiful.
We just watched The Mule.  I say we, as Merril has been crook.  She had heaps planned and then her face told the story.  She did not look well.  Someone visiting commented as soon as he saw her.  She has spent today recuperating.  It was not the flu but a cold.  However, it knocked her about.
Anyway, I really did like The Mule a lot.  If anyone intends seeing the movie, consider this a spoiler alert.  Clint Eastwood builds a story well.  The mule’s ex-wife had a couple of quotes I really liked.  She said of the Mule on her death bed (she did not know he was a mule, and when he told her she did not believe him) “you were the love of my life, and the pain of my life.”  He declared to her his love and the exchange was “do you love me more today than yesterday, and he responded but not as much as tomorrow.  I did not make anything deep and meaningful out of that, or take from it any life lessons, but I thought it was a beautiful expression.
One of the things I did get out of it though was how his work caused him to be estranged from his family.  He had put it first and had missed some really important milestones in the family’s life.  He came to regret putting work before people.  He acknowledged to his daughter (who had not spoken to him in 12 years) that he blew it.  She said “I don’t know you have blown it, you are just a late bloomer.”  I liked that.
I did expend more energy going to a shop and eating what was served.  It made me full.  It was time for another sleep.
