Sleep

Sometimes it seems to me that sleep is like the best thing.  I am an early to bed early to rise person but there are other times in my life when I know sleep restores.
When I had my stroke I slept.  It was not a sleep when I should have been doing other things.  Sleeping was the best thing I could do.  The body needed to heal.  There would come a time when sleeping was not the thing to do, but that was not the time.
I really feel for those who have trouble sleeping.  It has never been a problem I had.  There are times I get up super early but usually I have gone to bed early.  They reckon ever hours sleep before midnight is worth two hours after midnight.
A mate of mine has had trouble sleeping.  It just seemed to elude him.  He would lay awake and have trouble shutting down his brain.  It meant that when it was time for work, he would not be at his best.
They reckon that sleep is in cycles.  REM and Non REM.  REM is when I dream.  They reckon that pretty well everyone dreams.  I guess I do but I rarely remember what I dream.  For others dreaming is vivid.  Some people tell me about their dreams and I try to distinguish between significant ones and ones brought on by pizza or the events of the previous day.  
Getting older is weird.  It seems I need less sleep but I have it at different times than I would have once.  Though sleeping at night is always a goer.  During the day is not a necessity but when it happens, I never fail to be surprised at how easy it is.
I can always tell if I have had too much sleep.  I tend to sleep for sleeps sake.  For me that is a bad habit characterised by grogginess.  The best thing I can do is get up rather than succumb to it.  At work I would regularly experience a period of drowsiness.  Sleep would seem so attractive.  But sleeping at my desk would not be a good look.  It was a passing thing.  I would get over it.
At other times I may not think I need sleep, but sleep is what I need.  Physical or mental trauma prompts it.  I guess it is part of sleeps restorative power.  When it comes to mental anguish or sorrow sleep helps pass the time.  I may still need a release and that should not be avoided.  I am not into burying something alive.  But for me sleep helps fill in the gaps.  As does lots of activity.  I may not care what it is, but it keeps me from dwelling on the problem.
Normally I do not need a lot of sleep, but I always need some.  At other times I need a lot.  Whatever the case I am after healthy rather than unhealthy.
