Sleep

I did not expect to be an undercover agent for so long.  Though sleep is definitely not over-rated.
We had been to a friend’s place for lunch.  We expected it would be good and it was.  We started with a drink and then had the main course.  Oh there were nibbles before it which were great.  I did not have many of them as I did not want to spoil my lunch.  I cannot speak for others, but it was like I was going for the record.  When we had the main course, I went back for main course seconds.  Then came dessert.  It was a deconstructed pavlova.  It went really well with Cider.  After we had eaten it, I noticed there were pieces of rock melon left.  Soon there were not.
As we progressed the conversation continued to be stimulating in an “I’m on my way- out kind of way.”  Not even the big coffee changed that.  By the time I had another big coffee and a jam drop and a chocolate, sleep was really the only thing I would excel at.
We had car-pooled, and Merril and I got a lift home.  When we got there, there was no loitering.  Sleep was on the agenda and it had assumed top priority.  I so did not expect to sleep from four pm to about four am.  Though the fact I did was not my fault.  If Great, great, great, great Uncle Walter had turned left onto the track rather than right into the forest none of this would have happened.  I blame him.
I did stir at 7.30 pm but I thought it was 4am.  I thought it was tomorrow and not yesterday.  It did strike me as unusual that the people across the road had their lights on at that hour.  I hoped everything was alright.  I assumed it was when I looked at the clock.
As we had no commitments, I made my way back to the bed.  Not to sleep mind, but to watch a bit of telly.  I did for a few seconds.    I knew it was time to get up when I was just waiting for the clock to reach a time where it was time to get up.
I saw it as important I did not let on.  You just imagined everything you just read.  I needed a ready casual response.  Apart from none of it being true, it would all be true.
Though I think I might have been a bit hyper.  Starting and finishing the air raid shelter before 6am would suggest I was.  Felt like a “Good morning Lord!” rather than a “Good Lord, morning” sort of day.
Ok, got it.  I was partaking in a ground-breaking experiment.  Apart from about five billion people no one had ever done it before.  I was going into a deep zone.  To outsiders it would look like sleep.  It could be dangerous, but I knew I had to go there alone.  Preparing was not the time for idle chit chat.  Only significant things should be said.  Merril and I continued on in silence.
I am pleased to say I came out the other side.  I can report it was just like sleep.  I didn’t know it, but Merril had later gone through the same process.  I think she is going to be ok.  I will check again later.
