Sleep

30/5/2019

I am an early riser.  I always have been, and I guess I always will be. I would think getting away would be the perfect opportunity for me to sleep in.  But no.  Really early my body alarm clock goes off and I’m up.
Thankfully, sleep has never been a problem for me.  There are those that would give anything for a good nights sleep.  The brain does not shut down.  Perhaps its size makes it less of a problem for me.  In my youth, dad would come home for lunch and sleep for 20 minutes.  His sleeping for a set time was like clock-work.
The closet I have come to that sort of thing was there was a time like 4:25 that was really important to me.  I was amazed how often I would wake and look at the clock and it would show that exact time.  Felt like someone was trying to tell me something.
Merril says “I’m and owl and you are a fowl.”  I am a bit unsure of that.  I have no problem with Merril being an owl but me a fowl?  Only the w needs to be changed to a u and a fight could break out.  I just need to find someone who wants to fight.
What would have a better ring for me is Merril saying, “I am an owl and you are a majestic, top of the bird food chain, eagle.”  I hope you did not think bald eagle.  I still have hair.  I just part it in the middle that is all, and the part is really wide.
The thing about getting up so early these days is it is dark.  And cold.  This morning the blankets seemed really attractive.  I was warm and snug.  Still, that was not enough.  Up I got.  Into the blizzard.  Probably only seemed like it.  The days are beautiful.  Initially it is cold.  I put on a number of layers.  People ask, “are you cold?”  I respond “not now.”
I do a few things when I get up.  Normally I have let the washing up mature over-night, so I do that.  I also post something on Facebook, and look at what others are putting on.  If there are emails to send, I often do it at that time.
I am a “strike while the irons hot” sort of person, so if I think of something that needs doing I do it.  I am not saying I check the iron.  More and more we are choosing clothes that do not need to be ironed.  At times though, I wear something that really should be ironed but I don’t do it.  This is way easier to get away with in winter, as a jumper often goes over the top.
Come mid-day though I am normally pretty tired.  I have a kip.  Sorta takes the edge off.  I didn’t do that a work though.  I soldiered on.  I remember saying to someone that often with tiredness there is something that comes over a person.  Go through it and things are fine.  Succumb and sleep is inevitable.  Now sleep is mostly not something I need to resist, so I don’t.  I think I probably have as much sleep as others but at different times.  I don’t know if breaking it up is a good thing or not, but it is the way it is.  Besides the Mexicans have a siesta.  That is my siesta.
There are other things I do too, but I won’t go into them because it is time for a sleep.
