Singing

I am incredibly musical.  I even carry around a set of drums in my ears.  It is very debatable, but I used to sing.  Ok my voice was never that strong and I did not have a big range but I could go to town on a few notes.
As a kid I had a decent voice.  I had a solo part in something or other.  It was so memorable I don’t even remember it.  I do remember my song was “Just whistle while you work.”  Bit ironic really, as I can only whistle breathing in.  Still as a kid that was the pinnacle of my singing career.  Not a very high pinnacle really.  More of a blip or a smudge on the page.
As a young adult I learned the piano and the guitar.  When I say learned, I really could bluff my way through.  I wrote my own songs.  A person does not really need a big range to discover a lot of combinations that can be used.
I did belong to a band.  We had a repertoire of about five songs.  We played at a uni one time.  Those five songs were repeated many times.  It was really just as well there was no audience.  When I say no audience, there may have been some in their rooms.  As long as they were not playing their stereo or involved in any sort of conversation and had the windows open, they would have heard us.
Another group I was in was called “Peacemakers.”  One of the members told me he had a problem with that name.  Starting fights did not go with the name.  It never happened though.
We played an air show.  I reckon we sounded great.  There were a couple of female vocalists, one of which harmonized beautifully and male vocalists.  We all played instruments.  Boy was there a crowd.  Around 40,000.  Ok they were there to see the planes, but to make a day of it they had to visit us too.  We must have made a reasonable impression, as we were asked to play at a big rugby league function.
They say of ANZACS, “age shall not weary them.”  Well age wearied us.  One singer is no more, another has an ear thing that means they don’t now sing in a group setting.  Another had Ross River fever and has never sung the same again.  I had the brain tumour and now warble more than sing.  The younger ones are doing well though.  We did need to delay the practice sessions for that.  I got measles.  I had never had them but really made up for it.
We did a couple of Christmas sessions.  People seem to love Christmas shows.  We were on the back of a truck and part of what was organized.  I have no idea where they got Santa from, but he was drunk.  Boy did he tell a kid where to go.  Not a good look from Santa really.  The press came for that one and covered the event.  I will never forget a camera man right in my face.  Boy did that intimidate me.  Still we all gathered around the tv to see ourselves when we knew it was showing.  The next year it was bigger than Ben Hur.  We had an entrepreneur organizing it.  The fireworks at the end were spectacular.
Arr memories.  I still sing occasionally.  I am better than I was but not as good as I was.  There is a question mark as to if I was ever any good anyway.
