Sick

I am feeling better now.  Actually I was feeling ok after I took the antibiotic and then it hit me - sweats, not being able to keep anything down or sleep or lie down.  Tired out I was allergic to that one.  Of course, a guy just needs to get a cold and will act like he is dying.  Fortunately for me when Merril saw me (she had been out) she said I looked incredibly red.
What it did do was gave me a new appreciation of what those with long term illnesses go through.  Mine was short therm.  It lasted half a day.  Others have things that last years and some get a terminal diagnosis.
I know there can be intervention and I also know that often there is not.  I was really chuffed at something the founder of our table tennis club (who was Christian) said.  He said he got a group of people to pray for him.  He asked for prayer not that he would get better (he was at stage four cancer) but the pain would go.  From then on, the pain went.  I like that.  He rang me to say he had been given four weeks to live.  He lasted half that.  I was due to visit the day before he went, and the wife rang to say he was not up to visits.
The stroke does not make me sick I just need to realize my limitations and work within them.  I just get amazed at the way things are.  I am good going up and down stairs as long as I am not carrying anything.  The moment I am, railings are my best friend. My voice gives out earlier than it did.  No showstoppers.  Just adjustments.  A guy at table tennis used to do something I never understood.  I do now.
From my experience being sick is very different.  Nothing else can be concentrated on.  My whole being seeks only relief.  Today is my day off and has been for weeks.  Yet when Merril asked me what I had planned I said I was going to do this and that or maybe just sleep.  Little did I know it would be being sick and sleep for most of the day.  I can plan things, but there is always an element of not knowing. I sure did not know today.
So when someone tells me they are unwell I have a greater appreciation of what is being gone through.  My experience was limited and mild compared to most, but that was enough for me.
