Shave

“Dad I’ve overcome my phobia of beards.” “That deserves a celebration son.”  Or so the ad goes something like that. Ok it has only been a day, but I have my music back of a morning.  That deserves a celebration.  So that is what I am doing.  Very quietly.  I do not want to disturb the neighbours.  In fact if you looked at me, you would notice no perceptible change in my demeanour.  But I know there is a difference.  I am in celebration mode.
I was listening to a song called “Life Song.”  It got me thinking about life, the universe and everything.    Well maybe not that much.  But it did get me thinking about a few things.  There were a few things I did not need to think about anymore.  Like having a shave.  Today is the day.  I missed last week so I sorta had to mow twice.  I have been mowing for a while now.  If practice makes perfect, then I pretty well have it nailed I think. 
I do think using the cutters is a bit of a ruse.  This 5 o’clock shadow thing seems to be a result of using clippers.  It never shaves as convincingly as razors do.  But it is pretty convenient.  I find it such.  It always shaves like I have something like one days growth.  I can live with that.
It looks better than not having shaved at all.  When I went out last week, not having shaved, I was asked is this the new look.  The unshaven look.  It was the new look for that day but not something I was going to cultivate (the uncultivated look).  I just forgot.
Still what used to be an every day ritual is now a weekly ritual.  Merril often does the haircut thing for me.  She makes a good barber except she does not chatter as they often do.  She is much more thorough than I normally am.  I will go over an area that obviously needs going over.  But my aim is to alleviate the obvious while hers seems to be to use that for making me look the best I can.
I appreciate that.  I really need all the help I can get.  I have fought that battle and been fighting it for a long time.  I look in the mirror because I have to.  I don’t stand in front of it gazing at the wonder of my countenance.  My only wonder is like, I wonder if that is ok.
Oh I do have another wonder.  I wonder what is next.  I did think about the song “life song” but it turns out it was just in passing.  I thought about shaving a lot longer.
